BCM Construction Day 1: 6_24_2010

Well today was a milestone for Biscardi Creative Media. A bulldozer started moving some dirt around to clear the property borders for silt fencing. We are so excited to see our dream actually start to become a reality!!! You have to start somewhere with a new building and that usually means pushing a little dirt.

And of course where there is a bulldozer, there’s bound to be some fun!

The dozer ready to get to work.

A man and his bulldozer. Great guy and it’s incredible to watch how precise you can drive a machine that is big and seems to be unwieldly.

Unfortunately we did have a bit of an incident today with one of our future neighbors. When the grader was done clearing the border lines, another worker came back with the truck and trailer to pick up the dozer. You kind of need a BIG truck and a BIG trailer to haul one of these things.

Well, we’re at the end of a cul de sac so normally the truck driver would just go around the circle and then back the truck into position to pick up the loader. There was one small problem.

You see those two cars to the right? The white one and the green one next to each other. Those are employees of my neighbor. You can see the entrance to his parking lot at the very right of the photo. He won’t let them park in his parking lot because they leak fluid. So he makes them park in the cul de sac, which is actually against the convanents of the industrial park. I’ve actually brought this up to the property management multiple times during the past three months, but the cars continue to park there.

So why do I bring this up? Well because those cars were in the way, the truck driver had to try to turn the truck and trailer around by backing the trailer into that owner’s driveway. His driveway is slightly elevated from the road and that trailer is really long and hangs a ways out from the back wheels.

Can you guess where this is going? Yep, the trailer scraped the driveway and made two white marks. See em below? Right above where the concrete turns to asphalt? They’re about two feet long.

I know by now you’re wondering why I’m taking so much time to describe all of this. Because when the trailer hit the asphalt, apparently the owner of that company came out and berated the truck driver for “damaging” his parking lot. When the truck driver turned around, he apparently knocked the truck driver to the ground. Yes. He berated and essentially assaulted a truck driver because of those two white marks in a parking lot.

The truck driver did the right thing, he did not fight back, but instead called 911 and the police came to the job site. The officer apparently suggested assault charges could be filed, the owner apparently apologized to the driver. The driver decided not to press charges. This is when I found out about the whole incident and immediately drove over to the site to take these photos. See if those cars weren’t parked in the cul de sac (remember, they’re not allowed out there) the truck would have plenty of room to turn around and this would have never happened.

I have no idea how one can get so upset about two marks in a parking lot, but I have put in yet another call to the property management. I’ll update you on how that conversation goes! But even that won’t dampen our enthusiasm for what is going to be an exciting incredible new facility! Here’s how it looked at the end of Day 1. Official “Groundbreaking” photos coming tomorrow!
