BCM_Construction_Day 39: Rough Plumbing installed
Today was a real fun day to stop by the job site. Chuck’s Plumbing was there to install all the rough plumbing that goes underground. All this underground stuff obviously has to be completed before the slab is poured. Easier to dig in dirt than cut out concrete! Well I gotta say, Chuck came right out of central casting. If you need a Southern gentleman for a project, Chuck is your man! I really respect people who work with their hands and in Chuck’s case, he’s working with his son. That is so incredibly cool for father and son to work together in a company.
Chuck and his son (right) start measuring out the pipe locations before digging.
Chuck (standing) and his son mark the location of one of the bathrooms. It’s kind of neat in this age of GPS, computers and all kinds of technology a trusty tape measure, level and some string are all they need to mark the proper locations. No school like old school…..
Chuck digging the main entrance trench. This is where all the water will enter the building. Now if that was me in the machine, I would have already ripped up the wooden forms and probably knocked somebody over…. And have I mentioned lately just how beautiful it is out there? Look at those trees…. the blue sky…. we’re gonna be working out in nature!
Chuck at the controls. His touch was amazing with this machine. You think it’s some rough construction machine that’s made to tear stuff up and he operated it like it was an extension of his arms. Perfectly smooth and precise. I’d say he’s had some practice with this…..
Nice and easy, a master at the controls. I’m still jealous I don’t get to drive it, but times like this it’s better to leave the digging to the professionals…
Chuck’s son in the trench getting ready to rough in the pipes. That’s Joe McCabe in the background doing what the general contractor usually does on a job. Talk on the phone while the other folks work. Not really. He was out on the site early this morning working over the layout with Chuck and he’s doing an awesome job overseeing everything.
Later in the afternoon, I returned to find all the rough plumbing ready for inspection. That tall pipe on the left is where the kitchen sink will be. Then to the left of the machine you can see the location of the three bathrooms. Yeah three. Why not? I had room for three and it’s just as easy to put in three as it is to put in one when you’re starting from scratch. Heck it’s easy to do pretty much anything when you start from scratch.
“Time Lapse” photo 1 at the end of the day. Look at all those trees back there. I could not have gotten a better location….
“Time Lapse” photo 2 at the end of the day. Kind of hard to see since the sun is behind everything but the job site is just moving right along.
Again, I have to say, I have so much respect for these craftsmen like Chuck and his sons and Joe who can transform a barren lot of land into a building. Joe reminds me much of how I run Biscardi Creative Media. He surrounds himself with really good people. You can’t do everything yourself. You find good people, you pay them fair and you take input from everyone. That builds a great team.
